Gillian Cochrane (7/15/2008)
Project: The Impact of Vision Impairment on Children with Low Vision.
Globally, nearly 4% of those with vision impairment are children. Gillian’s research found the main impact of vision impairment on children was ability to socialise, and the level of vision and support predicted the level of participation in school and living activities. Full Story

Project: The Biomechanical Principles of Corneal Reshaping and their Application in Soft Contact Lenses.
Orthokeratology is the overnight wear of specially designed contact lenses to alter the shape of the cornea, providing clear vision without lenses through the day. New silicone hydrogel lenses are being studied for this method of vision correction. Full Story

Andrea Petznick (12/12/2007)
Project: The expression of wound healing markers in response to corneal wounding.
The corneal wound healing response following laser surgery can produce dry eye symptoms. A comparison of wound healing processes following refractive surgical procedures is helping to examine the potential for a corneal onlay. Full Story

Project: Role of bovine lactoferrin in corneal epithelial wound healing
Delayed wound healing of a damaged corneal epithelium can lead to infection and ulceration, resulting in vision loss. Ushasree Pattamatta is investigating the ability of bovine lactoferrin to promote corneal epithelial wound healing as a novel therapy for corneal wounds.

Project: Structural Equation Modeling and Its Application to Quality of Life of Visually Impaired. A new WHO International Classification of Functioning Disability and Health (ICF) was established in 2001. In her PhD Rishita verifed the ICF model, which focuses on how people live with their health conditions, among people with visual impairment. Full Story

Project: The influence of tear film and contact lens osmolality on contact lens comfort
Dry eye and ocular discomfort are a major problem for many contact lens wearers. Tear film osmolality may be an important factor in dry eye, and this work is investigating the influence of tear film and contact lens osmolality on ocular comfort. Full Story
