On February 5 the CEO of Vision CRC, Professor Deborah Sweeney, was awarded an Honorary Fellowship of the College of Optometrists in London. The award was made “in recognition of the contribution she has made to research and development, in particular relating to contact lenses and silicone hydrogel materials”. Full Story

Teaching Australian kids to see for themselves (1/18/2008)
ICEE and Vision CRC are taking advantage of the Sunnies for Sight fundraising day to teach children about vision and taking care of their eyes.
Educational packages have been developed for preschool, primary and high schools including teachers notes, class handouts, and "things to make and do".

Local rules! (12/17/2007)
The professional education developed by Vision CRC and ICEE, in conjunction with Essilor International, is having an impact throughout Asia. Since 2003, 57 local presenters have been certified by ICEE to conduct the Varilux Academy training program, and in 2007 they taught 2,742 practitioners, an increase of 80% on 2006. Full Story

Vision 2 (10/18/2007)
The Vision CRC team is investigating options for life as "Vision 2" to meet the 2008 Round of CRC funding applications. Vision 2 aims to take the technology and learnings of Vision CRC and its predecessor the CRC for Eye Research and Technology, and with the addition of new expertise, develop innovative products, to address the vision problems of ageing. Student scholarship success (2/8/2007)
Two Vision CRC students will be enhancing their research skills with the addition of commercialisation training. Riaz Rasul and Thein Zaw Oo have just received two of the new Commercialisation Training Scholarships, initiated by the Commonwealth Government to provide research commercialisation and innovation training for Australian PhD candidates. Brien Holden Award (7/23/2007)
Brien Holden recently received the Donald R. Korb Award for excellence in contact lens practice from the Contact Lens Section of the American Optometric Association. The Award was presented at the 2007 Optometry’s Meeting in Boston by Dr Donald Korb who said that: “The contact lens field has been fortunate to have Brien choose our field for his research."

Senator Carr sees the future (7/16/2007)
It didn’t take a crystal ball to see the future of vision science for Senator Kim Carr during a tour of the Vision CRC at the Institute for Eye Research this week. The tour with CEO of Vision CRC, Professor Deborah Sweeney, and some of Australia’s leading vision researchers and educators gave Senator Carr a glimpse of the eyecare of the future. Full Story
