Champalimaud grant for LVPEI stem cell research (5/3/2007)
The Hyderabad Eye Research Foundation (HERF) in India has just been awarded a major research grant, from the Portugal-based nonprofit “Antonio Champalimaud Foundation”, for the establishment of what will be known as the Champalimaud Translational Centre of Eye Research (C-TRACER) at the LV Prasad Eye Institute, a core partner of Vision CRC. BCLA Da Vinci Award (2/26/2007)
Blanka Golebiowski, Education Manager and Research Associate at the Vision CRC and recent PhD graduate, has been awarded the 2007 Da Vinci Award from the British Contact Lens Association, for her work on ocular surface sensitivity and its relationship to contact lens tolerance.

Australia leads the way (2/16/2007)
Professor Hugh Taylor, Executive Director of Vision CRC Vision Care Delivery and Managing Director of the Centre for Eye Research Australia, recently attended a Canadian National Coalition for Vision Health meeting, designed to make a national plan for eye health for Canada. The draft plan has been based on the 2005 Australian National Eye Health Framework. Full Story

Holden British award (2/15/2007)
Professor Brien Holden was recently elected to Honorary Fellowship of the British College of Optometrists in recognition of the outstanding contribution he has made to the optometric profession. The College particularly recognised the contribution Brien has made to international optometric research and education. Full Story

New Director of Postgraduate Studies (9/2/2007)
Dr Eric Papas has been announced as the new Director of Postgraduate Studies for the Vision CRC, Institute for Eye Research and International Centre for Eyecare Education. Dr Papas takes up his position from Associate Professor Fiona Stapleton, who is now the Head of School of the UNSW School of Optometry and Vision Science. Full Story

Affordable vision (5/2/2007)
Making low cost spectacles available to all is a new initiative from Vision CRC core partner, ICEE. The International Centre for Eyecare Education has recently launched its Global Resource Centre, designed to provide a reliable supply of high quality, low cost spectacles, frames, lenses and low vision aids to disadvantaged communities. Lisa Keay receives NHMRC Fellowship (1/2/2007)
Dr Lisa Keay has been awarded a NHMRC postdoctoral fellowship at the Wilmer Eye Institute, John Hopkins University and on return to Australia, at the George Institute for International Health, University of Sydney. Lisa recently completed her PhD at the Vision CRC for her work on the "Public health impact of contact lens related microbial keratitis". Full Story
