Fiona Stapleton: New Head of School (1/18/2007)
Associate Professor Fiona Stapleton of the Vision Cooperative Research Centre has been announced as the next Head of School for the School of Optometry and Vision Science of the University of New South Wales. She is the first female head of an optometry school in Australia. Full Story

Million dollar vision (11/1/2007)
Vision CRC collaborators and researchers are reaping the rewards of their work, with the CRC set to distribute royalties earned by contact lenses developed by the CRC. Last year $15.12 million was earned in royalties, and $28.483 million has been returned over the life of the CRC for Eye Research and Technology and the Vision CRC thus far. Full Story

Antti Vannas (12/19/2006)
Sydney, 15 December 2006: Today the Vision CRC and the Institute for Eye Research (IER) mourn the passing of a great visionary and internationally recognised Ophthalmologist. In Helsinki last night, Professor Antti Vannas, friend, colleague and collaborator for more than 30 years, died after a battle with cancer. Full Story

First Fellowship winner (1/12/2006)
The inaugural winner of the Vannas Fellowship was announced at a moving ceremony in Finland last week. Jukka Moilanen is a scientist and Ophthalmologist at Helsinki University Eye Hospital. Jukka will take up his Fellowship in 2007 at the Vision Cooperative Research Centre in Sydney, working on a corneal inlay/onlay project and other surgical projects. Full Story

Vision CRC Third Year Review (1/11/2006)
The Third Year Review of the Vision CRC was conducted on 23-24 October, 2006. The review is designed to give DEST the opportunity to evaluate the performance of the CRC, ensuring that it is on track with the agreement made at the commencement of the CRC. Full Story

Aboriginal Health Services Award (10/20/2006)
Professor Brian Layland’s work in Aboriginal eyecare has been recognised by the NSW Government Department of Aboriginal Affairs. Professor Layland recently received an Award for excellence in health service delivery by a non-Aboriginal person. The category recognises a significant contribution towards the delivery of culturally sensitive and respectful health services to Aboriginal people in NSW. Full Story

The Complete Contact Lens Course has been Completed! (9/28/2006)
“We are very excited to have completed the Course and proud to be able to offer this great resource to the contact lens world", says Professor Deborah Sweeney about the Contact Lens Course from the International Association of Contact Lens Educators.
