Technology for eye surgery developed - Intraoperative autorefractor and OCT
The Accommodating Gel project is developing a clear gel-lens system that will replace the old presbyopic or cataractous lens. The lens is removed during a simple procedure and replaced by the polymer gel. Existing ‘mechanical’ accommodating intraocular lenses have shown limited accommodative power – around 1.00 D to 1.50 D. In contrast, internal tests on an earlier gel prototype have shown accommodative amplitude comparable to the focusing ability of someone in their early 20s.
