Brien Holden Vision Institute Animal Ethics Committee – BIAEC

The primary role of the committee is to assess the ethical merit of scientific and teaching activities that involve animals or animal tissue. It will ensure that all animal care and use within our institutions are conducted in compliance with the Australian Code of Practice for the Care and Use of Animals for Scientific Purposes 2004.

VIHEC Human Research Ethics Committee

The primary role of the committee is to assess the ethical suitability of research proposals involving human participants or human tissue. It will ensure that all research is conducted in compliance with the Statement on Consumer and Community Participation in Health and Medical Research 2002; National Statement of Ethical Conduct in Human Research 2007; and the Australian Code for the Responsible Conduct of Research 2007.

Ethics Secretariat for the BIAEC and VIHEC

The Ethics Secretariat is an administrative unit processing all applications for ethics approval and enquiries relating to research and teaching involving human subjects, human tissue or animals. The Secretariat is a point of contact for the two ethics committees of Brien Holden Vision Institute, the Animal Ethics Committee (BIAEC) and Human Research Ethics Committee (VIHEC)
